Position:
    • Independent Bottle Shop Assistant Manager / 2IC – Full Time

    • Melbourne Street Cellars is one of Adelaide’s longest-running independent bottle-shops with a history going back nearly 50 years, stocking a broad & ever-changing selection of Wines, craft beers and spirits.
    • These offerings include value picks, classics, fine & natural from local & abroad, as well as a continually evolving array of eclectic drops to keep things fresh & interesting.
    • Melbourne Street Cellars has recently undertaken an intensive period of modernisation and growth, with much more still to come. We are now offering a rare opportunity for a self-motivated, dynamic go-getter to join our small team, playing a pivotal role in allowing us to continue this journey.
Role Description:
    • Your role would be all-encompassing and hands-on across most areas of independent liquor retail, including but not limited to:
      • The Usual:
        • Providing an exceptional, personalised and genuine customer service experience, this is first & foremost.
        • Ensuring all displays are well stocked, and the store is clean & presentable at all times.
        • Drawing on your existing product knowledge and experience to make recommendations in matching customer tastes and needs.
        • You will utilise your existing skillset & strengths to contribute in continuing the cellars forward. This may include but would certainly not be limited to: social media, drafting product descriptions/reviews, contributing towards our online store or utilising merchandising expertise.

      • Position Specific:
        • As 2IC, you would work closely with the cellars manager to assist in the day to day operations of the cellars.
        • While to some extent the role will depend on your strengths and skillset, it will suit someone with drive and motivation to take ownership of projects/tasks to work both individually and with our small team to achieve the best outcome.
        • For candidates with a serious passion for craft beer, your role may also include a substantial degree of autonomy in guiding our craft beer program to new heights.
Hours:
    • Full Time – Evenings and weekend work will be required, details negotiable.
Requirements:
    • WSET level 3+ or equivalent wine industry experience is valued highly
    • As a minimum, we would expect all applicants to have 2 years experience in wine or beer retail, production or service.
    • A genuine passion for all things wine, craft beer & spirit.
    • Strong work ethic, positive attitude & thrives in a team-orientated work environment. Able to work independently & unsupervised.
    • A high level of personal presentation.
    • Computer & Point-of-Sale literate
    • Physically capable of regularly lifting & moving wine/beer cartons
    • RSA & Responsible Person Badge (or willing to obtain)

    • While you’ll be exposed to a constant procession of samples being poured in-store, we encourage staff to utilise their staff discount & broadly explore the diverse wine landscape.
    • You will have the opportunity to further both your knowledge of not only wines, craft beers and spirits, but also the liquor industry in general. To help with this, your 3 colleagues would include an experienced 3 hat ex-Sommelier, An MBA graduate who’s close to completing his WSET Diploma and a genuine legend / dinosaur of the SA wine retail scene, John, who’s owned the cellars nearly 35 years and has more stories than any of us can poke a stick at.

Thursday 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Sundays & Public Holidays: 11:00 AM - 5:00PM
Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Years Day Closed
